SHOES DISTRIBUTION

A few days back The Dhaka Project managed to proceed to the very successful distribution of the huge donation come from Shoe Mart in Dubai. The first worry, after realising how lucky we had been when getting this surprising and impressing gift, was how to carry so many shoes to Dhaka once they should be safely routed to their target, the children, being a complicated logistics task to get all there, parcel by parcel, through volunteers or flight crew members who volunteered to do it.Then The Dhaka Project got another big surprise. The longest and biggest supporter of TDP, Emirates Airline Foundation, provided a way of getting all these shoes (and more items) to the field if accompanied by volunteers who could offer their time and passion towards this mission, having 3 of them, Maria, Sharon and Ibrahim kindly been able to donate their time to do it.The Dhaka Project dedicates a huge and heartful thanks not only once again to Shoe Mart but also to Emirates Foundation who made this dream come true as well as Maria Conceicao, always concerned about her children, Sharon D'Sousa, a long, long time supporter and volunteer Ibrahim Al-Maleh, having all done an extreme sacrifice to get there with almost half a ton of donations and do the distribution to the children, keeping steady from the beginning to the end against all odds!

TOOTHPASTE, TOOTHBRUSH AND SOAP DISTRIBUTION

Having previously looked at the dental and hygiene records of the children at the daycare, playgroup, nursery and senior section of our school, The Dhaka Project was quite concerned. Just as when things did not look encouraging, we were blessed with some very essential donations from Mr. Marcello, a well wisher of The Dhaka Project. Accordingly, we wasted no time in distributing those benefits to every needy children of our school.Um de Junho...tdp teamA total of 461 students were supplied with the daily necessities, each receiving a tooth brush, a tooth paste and soap. An achievement indeed! The fact that the distribution was a success was vividly upheld as the numbers ending up at the dental care center, run by The Dhaka Project reduced. We hope that the children are soon freed of such hazardous hygiene problems.Um de Junho... tdp teamOur heartiest gratitude to Mr. Marcello who has made a major contribution in the development of a better and healthier life for the children of The Dhaka Project.

MANGO DISTRIBUTION

Bangladesh is currently going through Summer season.
So, we decided to give the children a taste of what Summer really meant in Bangladesh and what better way to do so than treat the children with everyone's favorite - the Mango fruit.
It was an absolute delight to see the children enjoying their mangoes as much as they did.
Let's just say, we had as much fun seeing them have the mangoes as they had in eating them...

MOVIE NIGHT

On the 20th of June, Tahira, James and Shimul decided to give the children an experience to be remembered. They had a movie night on her mind. Accordingly, The Dhaka Project backed them up and arranged a place where the children could sit and enjoy a movie. The best that we could avail was the roof of our Dhaka Project school-senior section building. Since we were to display the movie on a projector screen, the wise decision, of showing the movie at night was taken.
Then came the decision of choosing which movie to play. We gave it a thought and after a while we had our answer. What better way to entertain the children than to play to them the DISNEY ANIMATION box office hit - "Kungfu Panda". A treat indeed!!
The fact that the children were enjoying the movie can clearly be seen through this picture as all heads remained unmoved and untilted until the movie actually ended!! Remarkable?..
Tahira's mission was a success as she stood among the delighted children, enjoying her moment???
We dearly thank Tahira for all her efforts to rejuvenate the lives of the children at The Dhaka Project and appreciate the kindness that she has shown towards our project and towards our children?

CLOTH DISTRIBUTION TO THE KIDS

As always, we were up to the task of providing the children of The Dhaka Project with the required disciplined and proper clothing. With the help of the donations received from the crew members of EMIRATES AIRLINE, all children, starting from nursery to those from EK, were provided with regular clothing on the 8th of June, for the rest of the month. The clothes were able to bring up priceless smiles on the faces of the numerous children who have not had much to smile about regarding their unfortunate past.We are ever thankful to those kind souls out there who have made the effort to bring a change. If you want to help us in this noble deed of ours please feel free, because we are waiting for you with open arms!

PREFECT SELECTION DAY AT TDPS

On Wednesday the 3rd of May all the teachers nominated the students chosen by the class teacher of each class as the prefects of our school.
Then on 5th we called for a meeting and made them understand their responsibilities.
The 6th of May 2009 happens to be the most memorable day of our school. It was for the first time that we had chosen our "Prefects". First thing in the morning all of us got together with the students and explained to them their duties and responsibilities and made them aware of the fact that each class will be under the supervision of a prefect. Then the prefects were presented with the badges which they wore with great pride and applaud from everybody present over there. Although it was a simple ceremony, it was a significant one being the first step of our school in this area of prefect selection and handing over the duty of managing the school to the students themselves.
The Dhaka Project labours on to create the best of all the environment a school can have, where students feel safe and enjoy learning.

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 11

We are really lucky for the kindness of Dubai donors who keep our store provided with all kinds of items to be either converted in funds in our Garage Sales or sent to our children in Dhaka through a chain of solidarity formed by flight crew, who are a great hope to our children at The Dhaka Project.
However we are running low on volunteers to work in our store. It's a very common scenery to find a great deal of donations waiting outside the storage room to be taken inside and put in the shelves or in the boxes,... well, yet it wouldn't be quite possible because all the mezzanine is completely full...
On the other hand the storage room is moving to another yet unknown place but believed and wished to be not very distant from this one; our customers would feel happy about it.
We really need volunteers, and yes, we have Cristiana but she can't do it all alone once she has her full time job.
If you think you can help by giving a hand to keep the store in good shape, please don't think twice; you will be very welcome !
And the last month sales have run as below:
  • 15th May - Cristiana Naufel helped by Maria opened the sale and sold items worth 1,000.00 AED.
  • 22nd May - Sales not run ! Unfortunately there were no volunteers to do the job ! Neither good to us nor to our customers.
  • 29th May - The sale was run by Nurul Islam. The net amount achieved was 1,000.00 AED.
  • 05th June - Both Nurul and Cristiana did the sale having achieved the net amount of 643.00 AED.
  • 12th June - A total sales amount of 639.00 AED this day run by Nurul.
  • 19th June - Cristiana and Nurul got around 1,400.00 AED in this sale. They counted with the help of Umair to put all things that were outside in the store.
Huge thanks to our donors and to Cristiana, Maria, Nurul and Umair, on behalf of The Dhaka Project children !

CRISTIANA IS COMMITED TO HELP TDP !

Cristiana Naufel is a new volunteer with The Dhaka Project who is doing a remarkable work of coordination and hard work in her efforts to get items donations taken to Dhaka. She has been massively contacting her cabin crew colleagues among those who are flying to Dhaka to see if they feel on the mood to help. And it was a success with them providing wings to the donations towards The Dhaka Project children!Below is a long list of those who adhered to this campaign to take a few items in their suitcases in the second half of last May:
Abigail Williams, Andrea Naucken, Carla Hanekon, Annette Larsen (Purser), Christopher Scanlan, Christina Smith, Chelsea Hollibone, Dalhee Cho, Frederic Marascotti, Glauber Marangoni, Jasmin Grenhan, Jessica Caray, Kate Nicholson, Kornphaka Peerwattuek (Purser), Leana Griesel, Laila karim (Purser), Lucia Zubekova, Meaza Berhanu, Nina Areerob, Ricardo Leite, Romuald Charayre (Purser), Sabinus D'Almeida, Sathaporn Singthong, Tsoline Ohannessian, Vicki Ho, Larisa Savova and Walailak Treetarnont.
All this crew responded to Cristiana's call, some taking their own donations, others taking donations previously prepared with the perfection seen in the pictures.
Cristiana also distributed the parcels for the crew most of the times. Some of these crew members took items more than once in this period of time.
It's a great venture having a volunteer like Cristiana who has been continuously commited to get the items kindly donated to The Dhaka Project's field.
Our grateful thanks go to all crew members whose names are written above and who said 'YES' to Cristiana on behalf of The Dhaka Project children!
Without their help her goal wouldn't have been achieved !!!

TDP KIDS ARE GRATEFUL TO MALOU !

The Dhaka Project's wonderful little friend Malou, recently celebrated her birthday and once again gave her presents away to help our children, as already mentioned.
With it she also sent her picture, her birthday invitation card and a business card.
So our little students used their creativity to show their gratitude and how they feel happy with the gifts they have been offered by Malou.
Also a usual attention from Malou's Mum, Uschi Irani, has been received in the form of beautiful clothes to our kids .
Again, our grateful thanks go to Uschi and Malou, for their kindness, to The Dhaka Project children !!!

HUGE THANKS TO COCOON NURSERY JUMEIRAH !

We at The Dhaka Project feel really happy as we got to know about one more wonderful donation.
So much sympathy and love come from Cocoon Nursery Jumeirah and their students !We are impressed! These small students kindly addressed their wonderful gesture to our children, making a huge shoebox donation containing many essentials such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, amenities etc.
It's really a good means to make a difference in a place like Gawair; by helping our kids to follow hygiene procedures not only help them to accomplish a better sense of cleanliness as it is a good way to avoid a number of dangerous diseases. We wish to say a huge thanks to Coocon Nursery and their students for this beautiful gift; special thanks to Isabelle, Melinda, Agathe and Virginia - on behalf of The Dhaka Project children.
And thanks to D'Sousa Family who took care of all for us!
Thank you !!!

SPONSORSHIPS AND DONATIONS

Sponsorship from Singaporean Women's Group
We feel grateful to the Singaporean Women's Group who decided to sponsor two of our kids for one year.
To perform this kind gesture we have been handed 1,200.00 AED through our volunteer Marcelo Taborda, a very important helping hand to our work, come from a group who have helped us at least once before .
Thanks in particular to Natasha Aswani and Aini Yunus. Also great thanks to the Singaporean Women's Group in general for this precious support given to the children under our care !

Birthday donation from Malou.
Also we got a beautiful donation from a very young girl, Malou, who is repeating her gesture of handing her birthday gifts to The Dhaka Project children with the help of her mum Uschi.
We are talking about a girl who recently celebrated her 5th anniversary and has come forward to help us for the second time. She asked her friends to bring some gift in funds at their choice to The Dhaka Project children instead of bringing presents to her,... and she collected 3,445.00 AED, a sum that made us be very happy, and so was she when handing it in Maria's hands.
Our gratitude is immense to this little girl Malou, and we wish to say a tremendous thank you for her kindness, on behalf of ou children!

Donation from Arunas Salon
We've had donations from our great supporters, Arunas, who donated 200.00 AED, and Grace who works for Arunas and made a donation of 100.00 TK. Let's remark that both have once been in Dhaka where they lent an important helping hand with items and training skills to set up this very beautiful beauty salon in the picture.
Huge thanks to both Arunas and Grace !!!

Donation in Dhaka
An anonymous donor was happy to contribute with 30 bars of soap and 72 toothbrushes !
Great ! A very nice help towards the hygiene of our students!
Thanks a lot to this anonymous soul for his/her kindness !!!

SHOE MART DONATION MAKES HAPPY FACES !

As we published a few days back, Shoe Mart has offered a huge cargo of new shoes to The Dhaka Project.
Some of them have already arrived at the field in Gawair.
Manuel D'Sousa is the volunteer from Dubai and old friend of the project who has brought these shoes to Dhaka in a recent flight he has done.
And our students are happy in this picture as saying a direct and huge thanks to Shoe Mart and to Manuel for having made this donation possible and partially available .

ATHLETAE CRISTI GROUP - THANKS ONCE AGAIN !

The Athletae Christi Group in Dubai, are supporting The Dhaka Project for the second time in a short period of time, with a precious donation in last December as published by that time in this blog and with a big sponsorship this time.
This action has been kindly coordinated by two members of the group, Freddy and Karla Becker, and counted once again with the high commitment of Lorena Serrano. They arranged a meeting with Marcelo Taborda who made a presentation and explained the project's objectives to the Athletae Christi members. And after the presentation they decided to sponsor 15 children for one year, having delivered the amount of 9,000.00 AED for that purpose.
It's delightful to have a sponsorship that will help a numerous group of children from among those who are not sponsored yet and who will begin to benefit of a consistent help.
The team feels grateful for the Athletae Christi Members' kindness and precious help, and wishes to express it on behalf of the kids under the care of The Dhaka Project !!!
