ADMISSION EXAM TO ENROLL NEW STUDENTS AT TDPS
At first TDP Family Counselor & TDP School authority had verified and evaluated the real societal statuesque, economical standing and health issues of the children who were asked to contact with their ID card. These cards were provided earlier but due to seat limitation they had to wait. Finally, 37 children are selected to sit for a one hour written test on 7/11/2009 from 10:00 – 11:00 a.m.
Students attended exam under the supervision of TDPS teachers. After evaluating their written-scripts each examinee faced a brief verbal interview with the Principal & two other senior teachers to bear out their communicative skill. Students, obtaining the necessary requirements will be placed to respective classes according to their merit afterwards. These new students will join their regular class soon after the approaching half yearly exam.
Concerned parents were found eagerly waiting outside the school gate while their kids were attending exam.

ABU HANIF'S ENGLISH SCHOOL !
A long time ago a student of The Dhaka Project, Abu Hanif, told me that he had a school of himself in his native village.
I thought his English was not good and that he meant that he went to school over there.
Sometimes he repeated his statement and even asked for help.
During Summer holiday I was invited by another student to his native village. It happened to be the same village of Abu.
Still unaware I visited the place.
Towards the end of the day we went to Abu Hanif's local area.
What I saw there was exactly like he had told me months before.
Children walked around with a plastic bag, a pencil and some papers. All things were provided by Abu.
On the paper I saw the English alphabet written.
Whenever Abu returns to his village he commits himself to educate the children around his grandparents’ house.
Feedback given by Ferre !

NEW SHIRTS FOR THE PRE-SCHOOL STUDENTS
10 students from Nursery got promoted to Pre-School!!
The Dhaka Project is running the Pre-School for the last one year. They get a set of uniforms to be worn, at the beginning of school years.
After the completion of a successful year a new pair of uniforms is distributed to the kids to replace the old one.
So at the beginning of this school year, that took place in the last week of February, they received their first set of uniforms this year. And now all the preschool kids have received their new uniforms.
They will no longer look dirty.
And after six months we are still trying to find an uniform supplier.

DHAKA PROJECT GIRLS HOSTEL IS OPEN!
Maria's dream of opening a Dhaka Project Girls Hostel has finally come to fruition.
The Hostel opened on 26th of June and now provides accommodation for 28 girls, aged between 12-14 years, from our Dhaka Project schools. The girls will be cared for by two Dhaka Project grandmothers who will also be provided with food and accommodation as part of the project. It has also provided employment for a father of four of our Dhaka Project children as a security guard for the building.
On Thursday afternoon, the girls all arrived at The Dhaka Project school with their bags packed for one last briefing by our Project Officer, Nayan.

They then received a very warm welcome to the Hostel from many of our Dhaka Project staff and were able to see for the first time their rooms and to mix with their new room mates.
The initial work started on the Girls Hostel in late May. After securing a lease on the building, there was a lot of work which needed to be done to produce a safe and fun environment for the girls.
Nayan has worked tirelessly on this project with the help of two long time Dhaka Project supporters, Ruth and Luiz and the three flats now look fantastic!
The Dhaka Project's Girls Hostel will relieve the financial pressure on the families of these 28 girls, provide the girls with a safe and happy environment in which to grow up and learn and will help to protect them from threats such as illegal underage marriages. The girls are overjoyed with the opportunity to be part of this project and all seem to be settling in very well.
A big thank you to all who have helped on the project especially Nayan, Ruth & Luiz.

ADULT DEVELOPMENT PROGRAM
The Adult Development is growing big in operation at the moment in The Dhaka Project. It’s open to the whole community. Anyone who wants to learn English or computing can sign in and start learning. The Emirates Airline Foundation School is kept open at night where the community members, largely from the parents can come and learn English and computer skills.
The staff members of the organization are given English classes every day.
They are progressing every day and impressively they have started a club called, ‘‘English Language Club”, where they come in the evening and learn by interacting within themselves. The brilliant students help the weak ones to learn. This gives them the ownership of learning and they take pride in the fact they are helping in developing each other.
The cleaners, rickshaw pullers, cooks and the security guards, everyone take part in the class enthusiastically.

REGISTRATION OF THE NEW STUDENTS
Busy day today started by a visit to the nursery with all those cute chicks. Each time it's pure joy to see their smily face when they see us. That's definitely the best way to start a day! Then we went to the office located in the school were the registration of the new students was happening.
TDP has its own school for 150 children and sponsorises 491 others to attend local schools. Maria found out that the level of education was really different so she decided to bring back the sponsored kids in TDP school. Then, pushing the reflexion further, she decided to give up the 100% bangladeshi curriculum for an international one. Firoz, our Education expert, has decided that we will follow the Cambrige curriculum adapted to Bangladesh.
But none of the children are on the same level. So, as the official scholar year is starting from July, they have decided to dedicate the 5 coming months to put all the children of what Firoz calls an Education Fast Track. It means that each child will be evaluated and pushed collectivaly and invividually if necessary in order to be ready for July.
This Education world is totally new for me and I realise how it can be an extremely powerful weapon against poverty. Here, families are begging us to take their children as they know it's the only path to escape from their misery. Yesterday for example, we had a father coming to the school with his daughter. He said she wanted to go to school but as she is working in a garment factory (she is 13 years old), he wanted us to compensate the income of the family. It seems that the mother has some blood pressure problems and the father, selling vegetables on the market, cannot sustain alone the family. We told the father we wanted to meet the mother to check her health with our doctor in order to give her a treatment. Then she would be able to work from home with a sewing machine replacing the daughter's income. Let's see what will happen!
This example Showcases quite well what we believe in. We could have told the father that we will pay the family in order to have the daughter in school but we don't believe in this way. We want to teach them how to manage their own life, make their own money and that's the principal task I have decided to dedicate myself.
