GARAGE SALE

A fundraising event was held on the 22nd of June .
It was a garage sale being conducted by Ibrahim.
Sent by FVDEarlier, Maria and Sharon had brought with them some clothes for The Dhaka Project when they flew into Dhaka. As they left early, Ibrahim decided to sell those clothes and use it to raise some money for The Dhaka Project.
Sent by FVDThe clothes were sold to the parent’s of the community by Ibrahim. A total of 7,000.00 BDT was raised from the garage sale. Not only was the garage sale benefiting for us but also for the parent’s and the children who hardly get to buy such clothes due to their poor financial state.
We are thankful to Maria and Sharon for bringing those clothes for The Dhaka Project and to Ibrahim for carrying out the task on behalf of selling those clothes to the parents. Also our gratitude goes to all donors in Dubai who used to fill our storage room with all kinds of items.
Unfortunately, we lost the mezzanine and the new drop-off point is yet to be known !

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 11

We are really lucky for the kindness of Dubai donors who keep our store provided with all kinds of items to be either converted in funds in our Garage Sales or sent to our children in Dhaka through a chain of solidarity formed by flight crew, who are a great hope to our children at The Dhaka Project.
However we are running low on volunteers to work in our store. It's a very common scenery to find a great deal of donations waiting outside the storage room to be taken inside and put in the shelves or in the boxes,... well, yet it wouldn't be quite possible because all the mezzanine is completely full...
On the other hand the storage room is moving to another yet unknown place but believed and wished to be not very distant from this one; our customers would feel happy about it.
We really need volunteers, and yes, we have Cristiana but she can't do it all alone once she has her full time job.
If you think you can help by giving a hand to keep the store in good shape, please don't think twice; you will be very welcome !
And the last month sales have run as below:
  • 15th May - Cristiana Naufel helped by Maria opened the sale and sold items worth 1,000.00 AED.
  • 22nd May - Sales not run ! Unfortunately there were no volunteers to do the job ! Neither good to us nor to our customers.
  • 29th May - The sale was run by Nurul Islam. The net amount achieved was 1,000.00 AED.
  • 05th June - Both Nurul and Cristiana did the sale having achieved the net amount of 643.00 AED.
  • 12th June - A total sales amount of 639.00 AED this day run by Nurul.
  • 19th June - Cristiana and Nurul got around 1,400.00 AED in this sale. They counted with the help of Umair to put all things that were outside in the store.
Huge thanks to our donors and to Cristiana, Maria, Nurul and Umair, on behalf of The Dhaka Project children !

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 10

Thanks to all donors who have dropped loads of used items in our mezzanine store.
A few of these donors who we address our deep gratitude are Charlotte Carr, Emma Louise, Donald, Lola Lopez, De Sousa Family and Suzie Simonian who donated all sorts of very useful clothes.
These donations demand tidiness and organization to get everything ready so the sales can be done, or the packs can be delivered to volunteer pilots or crew who are flying to Dhaka. .
The last Garage sales had the following results:
  • 17-04-09 840.00 AED done by Nurul and Solange.
  • 24-04-09 1,140.00 AED done Nurul and Solange.
  • 01-05-09 1,047.00 AED done Nurul and Solange.
  • 02-05-09 420,00 AED done by Solange - extra sale on customers' request.
  • 08-05-09 1,240.00 AED done by Nurul and Solange.
Two Brazilian Emirates pilots, Kalina Comenho and someone who wishes to stay anonymous, took a load of items to Dhaka; both visited the project and Kalina felt touched, and got moved to keep helping.
Solange Barros selected the items and delivered them at pilots' houses at her own expenses as usual... these packs had essential items as soap, toothpaste, tooth brushes, pencils, erasers, children and baby clothes, etc.
Solange Barros has been our working star, in tidying the store each time a load is drop there by donors. Solange's stamina and dedication is incredible! How can a human being be commited in a variety of roles in so many fronts !? Tidying the store, doing Garage Sales, selecting items and packing them, tagging the packs, taking them to the pilots, spending family income and her time, all in the name of a wellness provided to the children in which she truly believes.
Nurul Islam is another example of continuous cooperation along these months after he started working with Emirates in Dubai, having attended all Friday Garage Sales and some Saturday events.
A great thanks to the volunteer pilots, Anonymous and Kalina Comenho, for having taken those precious gifts to ease the kids' life at the field in Gawair!!!
Also The Dhaka Project is continuously grateful to all donors of items, to the store keeper Solange Barros and to Bangladeshi volunteer Nurul Islam for the persistence and determination they lend to the cause of the poor slums' children now under our care.
Thank you !

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 9

Thanks to the sympathy of The Dhaka Project friends around and in Dubai who feel enthusiastic at helping the most in need, our mezzanine has stored lots of donations to be either sent to the field in Dhaka or to be sold in the store allowing our volunteers to fundraise through Garage Sales.
The Friday Garage Sales along the last month had the following results:
  • 13th, March, Dhs 595,00 - Solange and Nurul
  • 20th, March, Dhs 840,00 - Solange and Nurul
  • 27th, March, Dhs 430,00 - Solange and Nurul
  • 3rd, April, Dhs 146,00 - Solange, Nurul and his friend.
  • 10th, April, Dhs 1549,00 - Nurul and Solange for some time.
Also there have been some expenses, some of them with Nurul's transport, Dhs 200,00 . The final result is an appreciable amount!
During the ohter days of the month and while managing her own life, Solange also took care of all the tidiness in the store, organizing the huge number of donaitons in shelves and wheeled boxes; a great work done by Solange as usual... she hired some help from 5 ladies against a few pieces yielded from the donations and all have transformed a big chaos in a store with the aspect as shown in the pictures. Also some ladies of the Brasilian Team have given a hand sorting the items to the respective boxes.
Our grateful thanks to Nurul's friend and the Brazilian Team ladies who have given some help.
And The Dhaka Project is grateful once again to its rescued slum dweller, Nurul, always present in the sales, and to Solange, the permanent store keeper.
Both keep highly commited with their hard work to help kids improve their future life.
Thanks to all on behalf of The Dhaka Project kids !!!

SATURDAY FLEA MARKET SALE 2

Last Saturday with the help of our team of enthusiastic volunteers Solange Barros, Nurul Islam, Akash D Loungani, Anirudha Limaye we fundraised 3114 Dirhams that are going to do wonders at The Dhaka Project.
Nurul Islam and Solange Barros, as usual, worked tremendously hard organizing the donations, packing, loading their cars and taking those donations to Safa Park .. Nurul Islam started working at 7 AM to organize the sale...
Nurul even organized a van to pick up the donations from the store in the mezzanine floor and was the only volunteer staying behind until late in the afternoon in Safa Park trying to fundraise...
And the helpful Nurul kept running the sale until 3 PM but has been caught at Safa Park until 6:30 PM. Unfortunately someone failed to pick him up and he couldn't get a taxi. So much sacrifice that made the remaining team feel sorry for him!
Thank you to Nurul, Solange, Akash, Anirudha... for their hard work and for coming forward extending their help in this beautiful and very hot day... All are golden stars who we address our gratitude on behalf of our children at The dhaka Project !!!

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 7

The Dhaka Project Friday garage sales during this month have taken place regularly thanks to the availability of Nurul Islam who has been the hero running the sales alone, attending regularly and showing the potential of a true Bangadeshi slums survivor and dedicated worker in Dubai.
Spite of running the sales alone he has got nice amounts as follows:
  • 1st Jan, 09. - 808.00 Dirhams
  • 9th Jan, 09. - 1,808.00 Dirhams
  • 16th Jan, 09. - 1,250.00 Dirhams
And Solange has come back from her holiday and is again on her hard task of taking care of the store in her spare time; a few days ago she had a surprise that made her more motivated... Maria had emptied the store and sent all existing items to Dhaka, after having found a ''good soul'' who paid for the freight.
Thank you to Nurul, Solange, Maria and the one who offered the freight to Dhaka, on behalf of TDP kids, who will hopefully benefit of these items very soon!
And thanks to all donors who have kept the flame on along the project's life !!!

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 6

Our garage sale is keeping up spite of having been slowing down.
In this special season and due to many related factors, the volunteers' availability has turned a little down...
Once again we should refer the huge solidarity come from our donors who have filled up the store. We had to use another space to keep all the donations; this is a sure sign showing how the Dubai people keep concerned about those less privileged... as seen in previous entries in this blog, almost all donors come forward to deliver their used items (sometimes brand new items) at our drop-off point, so keeping Solange Fortuna really busy in the organization of the donations...
Here follows a list of donors who offered their items or their work towards The Dhaka Project; possibly some of them haven't been able to deliver their donations due to some kind of problem and surely a huge number of them have done it anonymously.
  • Mafalda Godinho, offered clothes from Portugal; obviously not possible. The necessary logistics would have a huge price due to freight plus rights at Dhaka side.
  • Blessy Varghese, offered "ladies clothes, baby clothes and toys".
  • Cyd Vargas and staff at his company, "gathered gifts for the children in Dhaka".
  • Matt Potts, offered "a lot of clothes, bedding, towels, shoes...".
  • Suzanne Nicholas, offered "a box full of nik naks, cds, dvds, books, ladies clothes, baby items, etc".
  • Tom Mannion and Chi Chung Wong, offered to take suitcases to Dhaka.
  • Sandra's sons Lucas and Devin have been helping with school photos sale in the school to raise funds.
...A true movement around a cause, the cause of the poorest.
And finally the volunteers of the weekly Friday Garage Sales:
  • 12th DEC. Maria, Nurul, John, Dash and Herman sold items worth 949.00 Dirhams.
  • 19th DEC. Herman Tanielu, crew with Emirates, and Nurul Islam, have run the sale having raised 855.00 Dirhams.
  • 26th DEC. Herman Tanielu and Nurul Islam took care of this Friday sale fundraising 2,375.00 Dirhams.
  • 27th Dec. Nurul Islam did more sales worth 521.00 Dirhams.
Solange Fortuna is the store manager for this month and of course is who takes care of the tidiness in the store spending a lot more hours in the store... with the cooperation of Lucas and Devin whenever possible.
To all who dedicatedly and passionately donate and work to give our children a better and rewarding life, here is our thank you on behalf of them!
