Students of KG 2 and Standard 3 were divided into 4 Groups for the workshop from 11 am to 4 pm on the stipulated days.

Cleanliness program by Portuguese Volunteers

Two Portuguese Volunteers, Ana and Isabel, started a cleanliness program from 1st March 2010 at the Grooming centre of TDPS.
The aim of the program is to make the hair of the students’ lice free.
Each day 20 students will be treated. At first the hair is carefully washed and rubbed with a towel, a medicine is poured on the hair and mixed with hand, a piece of cloth is wrapped around the hair which will be kept for a day and the hair will be washed again after 24 hours.
This process will kill all the lice living in the hair and the students will have a healthy hair.

GOODS DISTRIBUTION

On the 20th of June, Maria, Sharon and Ibrahim decided to distribute away some goods that they bought for The Dhaka Project. The huge hearted distributors spent a massive total of about 501,088.00 BDT or 7,200.00 USD in buying goods and commodities for the children and also arranging some repair work to be taken place in the EK School. They were intent on showing their love and kindness towards The Dhaka Project and all its children and so, they brought a little something for everyone. This achievement has been possible thanks to a very generous donation come from Jebel Ali School in Dubai who keep all the time thinking about ways to help The Dhaka Project children. Almost all these goods heve been bought with their donation.
According to a volunters' report they acquired the following list of items with this donation:
  • 1756 kilos of rice
  • 18 cans (of 2.5 kilos) of milk
  • 18 boxes of cerelac for nursery kids
  • 474 soaps
  • 439 tooth brushes
  • 439 tooth pastes
  • 7 packs of diapers (84 each)
  • We paid for the after school uniforms
  • 10 bikes to be bought
  • 10 tickets for kids to go to Nepal
  • Our bill came to 24,439.00 AED for all the above including bikes and tickets for the 10 kids
The "little something" included rice, sterilac baby meal, Nido milk, baby beds and diapers along with toothpastes, toothbrushes, soaps, shoes and tailor made clothes. They also wanted to do some repair and decorating work and so they decided to get the damaged chairs in the school fixed and to provide some floor mats for the EK School. Apart from that, they also bought two air-conditioners to be fitted in The Dhaka Project guest house.
It was a very special moment as Maria (founder of The Dhaka Project) was in between us. Its not everyday that we get to see Maria Conceicao, a resident of Portugal all the way here in Dhaka! So we knew that we had something special in our hands.
Maria, in co-operation with Sharon and Ibrahim presented all the parents with a pack of NIDO milk (2.5kg) along with a pack of sterilac meal for their children, who were being taken care of at The Dhaka Project-Day Care Centre. They also distributed baby beds for the Day Care Centre. Furthermore, the families were provided with diapers for their infants.
On the other hand, the elder children from EK were distributed with sufficient quantity of rice, tooth brush, toothpaste and soap which would last them for about one month. As if all that they had done was not enough, Maria, Ibrahim and Sharon went on to distribute good quality, luxury shoes from SHOE MART amongst the children. Our heartiest gratitude to SHOE MART once again who gleefully keep on donating.
Every parent was very grateful and obliged with the help that their children had received, as they had never imagined providing their children with such facilities and opportunities.
Such a huge contribution has had a very significant impact on The Dhaka Project and it will always be valued and appreciated by us.
The Dhaka Project expresses the deepest of gratitude to Maria, Sharon and Ibrahim who have influentially aided us with their kind distribution.
On behalf of The Dhaka Project children and families, our huge thanks go to all at Jebel Ali School; they are dedicated friends and let us without words to their kindness.
Thank you Jebel Ali !

And it was a success with them providing wings to the donations towards The Dhaka Project children!Below is a long list of those who adhered to this campaign to take a few items in their suitcases in the second half of last May:

HUGE THANKS TO COCOON NURSERY JUMEIRAH !

We at The Dhaka Project feel really happy as we got to know about one more wonderful donation.
So much sympathy and love come from Cocoon Nursery Jumeirah and their students !We are impressed! These small students kindly addressed their wonderful gesture to our children, making a huge shoebox donation containing many essentials such as toothbrushes, toothpaste, amenities etc.
It's really a good means to make a difference in a place like Gawair; by helping our kids to follow hygiene procedures not only help them to accomplish a better sense of cleanliness as it is a good way to avoid a number of dangerous diseases. We wish to say a huge thanks to Coocon Nursery and their students for this beautiful gift; special thanks to Isabelle, Melinda, Agathe and Virginia - on behalf of The Dhaka Project children.
And thanks to D'Sousa Family who took care of all for us!
Thank you !!!

ATHLETAE CRISTI GROUP - THANKS ONCE AGAIN !

The Athletae Christi Group in Dubai, are supporting The Dhaka Project for the second time in a short period of time, with a precious donation in last December as published by that time in this blog and with a big sponsorship this time.
This action has been kindly coordinated by two members of the group, Freddy and Karla Becker, and counted once again with the high commitment of Lorena Serrano. They arranged a meeting with Marcelo Taborda who made a presentation and explained the project's objectives to the Athletae Christi members. And after the presentation they decided to sponsor 15 children for one year, having delivered the amount of 9,000.00 AED for that purpose.
It's delightful to have a sponsorship that will help a numerous group of children from among those who are not sponsored yet and who will begin to benefit of a consistent help.
The team feels grateful for the Athletae Christi Members' kindness and precious help, and wishes to express it on behalf of the kids under the care of The Dhaka Project !!!

Such generosity come from Baby Shop to The Dhaka Project got us completely amazed !
They made a donation of 100's of kilos of children new clothes, yet in the boxes, some still having the tags !

But yet they don't wish to cross their arms; they are already managing to do a substancial fund raise towards a specific goal in the project!

RANIA TURK - AN OLD FRIEND !

There has been great persistence of supporters along the years who against adversities and side by side with Maria and other dedicated volunteers, have given The Dhaka Project a push from the zero ahead to the top level it once has reached !
Rania Turk is one of these supporters!
Going back through The Dhaka Project's 4 years history her commitment can be found very frequently.
And now Rania has fundraised 500.00 AED towards the renewal of the sponsorship to Rakib. She managed to sell photos to save this pretty sum and keep helping this child.
Also she has got a few beauty products to donate to TDP!
Another example more often referred is Manuel de Sousa, who once again took care of two nice donations - a donation of 1,500.00 AED from an anonymous donor and another donation of 300.00 AED left by an anonymous family in his mailbox.
We present our huge thanks to Rania and these anonymous donors, as well as our appreciation of Manuel's dedication, on behalf of The Dhaka Project children !!!

WONDERFUL SURPRISE FROM SHOE MART

We are thrilled about this donation and so will be the lucky kids who are going to be given a branded new high quality pair of shoes.
This donation comes to us by the kindness of Shoe Mart , a company implanted in Dubai and in several countries of the Middle East, with a tradition to help the most in need, and contains 261 pairs of shoes that fulfill any teenager's dreams, as it can be seen in the picture in which the "Lucky Stars" are working hard to help organize the suitcases to be sent to Gawair in Dhaka.

The volunteers "Lucky Stars" helping to pack the shoes !
The TDP Team sends a tremendous thank you to Shoe Mart for this beautiful gift on behalf of The Dhaka Project children! Let's hope we will soon see them wearing these new shoes !
Also we wish to say thanks to Roger and Maureen Hall who had got this donation to their charity but having it in excess suggested this donation to be directed to The Dhaka Project.
Finally our gratitude to D'Sousa Family (including their Lucky Stars) for getting part of this donation from Shoe Mart to our storage room and for taking care of and packing the other part !!!

FUNDRAISERS OF THE WEEK 9

Thanks to the sympathy of The Dhaka Project friends around and in Dubai who feel enthusiastic at helping the most in need, our mezzanine has stored lots of donations to be either sent to the field in Dhaka or to be sold in the store allowing our volunteers to fundraise through Garage Sales.
The Friday Garage Sales along the last month had the following results:
  • 13th, March, Dhs 595,00 - Solange and Nurul
  • 20th, March, Dhs 840,00 - Solange and Nurul
  • 27th, March, Dhs 430,00 - Solange and Nurul
  • 3rd, April, Dhs 146,00 - Solange, Nurul and his friend.
  • 10th, April, Dhs 1549,00 - Nurul and Solange for some time.
Also there have been some expenses, some of them with Nurul's transport, Dhs 200,00 . The final result is an appreciable amount!
During the ohter days of the month and while managing her own life, Solange also took care of all the tidiness in the store, organizing the huge number of donaitons in shelves and wheeled boxes; a great work done by Solange as usual... she hired some help from 5 ladies against a few pieces yielded from the donations and all have transformed a big chaos in a store with the aspect as shown in the pictures. Also some ladies of the Brasilian Team have given a hand sorting the items to the respective boxes.
Our grateful thanks to Nurul's friend and the Brazilian Team ladies who have given some help.
And The Dhaka Project is grateful once again to its rescued slum dweller, Nurul, always present in the sales, and to Solange, the permanent store keeper.
Both keep highly commited with their hard work to help kids improve their future life.
Thanks to all on behalf of The Dhaka Project kids !!!

We thank Solange Piñeiro, Nurul Islam and Tanvir Shah who managed the TDP stall at the fundraiser for donating their time for this cause.
We would also like to thank Miriam Walsh and Paul Townsend for their generosity in allowing us to set up the stall at half the official price.
In the spirit of transparency, the financial details were:

THANKS TO CHILDREN OASIS NURSERY SCHOOL !

We feel grateful for the Children Oasis Nursery School Dubai's fundraising activity that had big success through selling school photographs to the students, their parents and staff. This was a wonderful initiative!
Thank you for the support given to The Dhaka Project.
The amount raised, 500.00 Dirhams, will be very useful in making a difference in the lives of the slums children in Dhaka under the care of the project.
As an example, with this amount we can pay for 250 kg of rice, enough to provide basic food to our hundreds of children for a few days.
So we address our deep gratitude to Iris and Petra at Oasis Nursery School Dubai (as well as to staff, parents and students) for this kind initiative, on behalf of The Dhaka Project children.
Equally, our huge thanks to the volunteers, Sandra Metaxas and Amanda Martin, who produced the photos and had an active role in this event !!!
