International Mother Language day observed on 21st Feb

International Mother Language day was observed on 21st Feb. 2010 at TDPS. Students and teachers gathered around the school compound from 8 am. A procession was held early in the morning starting from the school road, passing Kazi bari road, Mia box road and ending again at the school road.Flowers were laid on the scaffold of the Shahid Minar (Monument) placed on the roof top of TDPS.
The day is recognized by UNESCO and observed through out the world.
Later Art and Essay competition were held among the students.
Prizes were distributed among the 1st, 2nd and 3rd position holders.

Dania Andrea Chacon Caramori, an Emirates Airline Cabin Crew visited The Dhaka Project on 16 Feb. 2010 with Bags full of donations including Blankets, Cloths, hats etc. She was so proud to see the activities of TDP that she not only donated 1,600 Taka but also her purse!

Thanks to Suyin Payet & Rabi Shankar Mirle

3rd Quarter Report Card Day of TDPSA

18 Feb. 2010 was 3rd Quarter Report Card Day of The Dhaka Project School (TDPS). Parents were also present during the Report Card distribution. Four students of the Play Group were awarded with gifts for their best performance. The teachers hope that this will increase their inspiration in future.Students from Nursery to Grade VII were given Report Cards by their respective Class teachers. Students were advised to do even better in the up coming final Examination. Parents were advised to take proper care of the weaker students.

Weekly Food Distribution Day

18 Feb. 2010 was also the Weekly Food Distribution Day of TDPS. Students were lined-up according to their grade. Names were called by Mr. Azad based on the weekly class presence.Later bags containing Rice, Lentil, Potato, Onions, Garlic & Eggs were distributed among the students.
Bags full of weekly diet food reduce the burden of the students' family.
Every Thursday is a happy day for the student's of TDPS.

Public Toilet for Mia Box Road Community

The old Public Toilet of Mia Box Road was rebuilt on the second week of February. It is a part of the WATSAN program to ensure hygienic environment among the local community.Thanks to the Irish Community, (in Dubai) Athletae Christi (in Dubai) and the landowner Malek Bhandary (in Dhaka) for the contribution to the New Public Toilet. Mr. Brendan Heery has volunteered himself as Water & Sanitation advisor from 29 Jan. to 12 Feb. 2010.
It was decided that the maintenance of the Public Toilet will be carried out by the landowner.

Delicious burgers prepared by TDPS students

Five students of Std-VII were prepared for their Home Economics class on 15th Feb. 2010. Miss Sonia Mirza demonstrated the session on how to prepare beef burger. Ingredients such as Buns, Beef, Tomato’s, lettuce, etc. were bought from a shopping mall. The students enjoyed the practical session as they mastered the recipe. Later the Judges marked based on the judgment of how the burgers tested.

Let's Clean Bangladesh- 2nd round February

2nd round of 'Let's Clean Bangladesh' was held on 14th Feb. 2010. It is a regular program of The Dhaka Project to teach the community people to keep the society clean. To ensure a healthy community, a clean environment is essential.
At 3:15 p.m. students were prepared with hand-gloves, Baskets and shovels to clean-up Kazi Bari Road & Payarabagan Road under the supervision of two teachers.
Students collected scattered garbage such as thrown away waste papers, packets and poly bags. All the garbage were gathered in an open place and set on fire.
After the cleansing, TDP team advised the community to keep the place clean by using garbage-drums already placed there.

Friendly Cricket Match between TDPS & SPP

The Dhaka Project School (TDPS) and Shishu Palli Plus (SPP) played a friendly Cricket Match on 11th February at the playground of SPP, Sreepur, Gazipur.It was a 15-15 over match. A toss was held between TDPS Captain Nazrul and SPP Captain Shoel. TDPS won the toss and decided to bat.TDPS scored 123/7 and invited SPP to chase the runs. SPP scored 112/7 and TDPS won the match by 11 runs. It was a historical moment for the players of TDPS.Captain Nazrul was declared the Man of the Match with individual 52 runs and 2 wkts. It was his wise decision which led the TDPS team to win the match.This was the first experience of the TDPS cricket team to play with another external team. The team was tired of two and a half hour journey from Dhaka. But the sprit was high. The team members were Nazrul (C), Jewel, Alamin, Masud (Wkt), Rahim, Enamul, Sohag, Aladdin (VC), Yasin, Saiful, Mohsin, Mr. Shafiqur Rahman Jewel (Volunteer Manager), Kazi Touhid Elahi (Assist. Sponsorship Manager) and Mr. Jahangir Alam (Teacher).

Parent’s Meeting at The Dhaka Project School

Parent’s meetings were held from 2-4 February from 3:30 pm to 4:30 pm at The Dhaka Project School in the respective class rooms. The Issues of discussion with the student’s parents were Preparation for final Exam, Not maintaining proper uniform, Late coming, Late coming after lunch break, Roaming around after school, Going outside without informing parents, Giving brief idea about rules and regulation for students, Loosing books and wasting pages. TDPS hopes parents will be more cautious about their siblings.

Let's Clean Bangladesh

'Let's Clean Bangladesh' – a regular program of The Dhaka Project was held on 3rd Feb. 2010. It is a program to teach the community people to keep the society clean.A Clean environment can provide a healthy community. 20 students were prepared with hand-gloves, Baskets and shovels to clean-up Gawair bazar Road, Kazi Bari Road & Gawair School Road under the supervision of three teachers.Students collected scattered garbage such as thrown away waste papers, packets and poly bags. All the garbage were gathered in a place and set on fire.
A cleaner of TDP sprayed liquid insecticides to the possible risky areas to destroy mosquitoes & other insects.After the cleansing, TDP team asked the community to keep the place clean by using garbage-drums already placed there.

Walk for Fund Raising in Scotland

Dawn Oconnor, Emirates Airline Crew organized and sponsored a walk in Scotland as a part of Fund Raising for The Dhaka Project. Though she couldn’t take part in the Walk , her mother Elaine with along her sister and friends had a great day supporting the fabulous project. T-Shirts and Banner (photo of Dawn with few children) was provided by Dawn herself. A total of 1,670 GB Pound was raised for The Dhaka Project. Her families, friends and neighbours have been very generous giving money for donations, baby items, clothing, toiletries, books etc. Dawn is also keen to arrange such program in near future.We appreciate the idea of Dawn and thank her for the mammoth task of arranging such a program. As Dawn is so proud to be a part of our project, we are more proud to have a person like her.
Dawn’s true inspiration will help The Dhaka Project to achieve its goal.

Fruit Distribution Day

Winter is preparing to take its leave - Spring peeping through the window - Children waiting --At last! Oranges were brought to give the taste of Vitamin C. Nazila Mohseni, Emirates Airlines Cabin Crew visited The Dhaka Project on 26 Jan. 2010 and took the pleasure of distributing Oranges among the TDPS students.The student’s joy knew no bounds. An orange in the palm of the hand at 11:00 a.m. was certainly the right time. It was probably the happiest day of the month.

A Big Thank You to ‘HELP’

Renowned humanitarian organization of Germany ‘HELP’ donated 5,000 euros to The Dhaka Project in December, 2009. A member of the ‘HELP’organization visited The Dhaka Project in 2008 and found how the underprivileged slum children are nursed with a motherly affection. HELP not only sponsored four children along with a Volunteer Manager to visit Germany in October, 2008 but also decided to contribute to the welfare of the children. The trip to Germany for Student International Festival was a great experience. Students had an interview at Deutsche Welle Radio. They visited Bonn Theatre, Bonn Art Gallery, Botanical Garden of Bonn, Bonn University, Cologne Cathedral (the largest church in Germany), Chocolate Museum and enjoyed a river cruise in Rhine River. All the Children of The Dhaka Project wish a Big Thank hoping ‘HELP’ will never forget them.
